Who We Are
UK Energy Guide (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a website that publishes guides on home energy efficiency and lets you request quotes for energy-saving home improvements. This policy explains how we collect, use and share your personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Data controller: UK Energy Guide is an independent UK-based publisher. A company registration is in progress; this page will be updated with the registered company details once complete. What Data We Collect
Quote request data
When you complete our quote request form, we collect the details needed to obtain quotes for you. Unless marked optional, all of these are required:
- Title, first name and last name
- Email address and phone number
- Address line 1, address line 2 (optional), town and postcode
- Property details (such as property type and the improvement you are interested in)
- Tenure (whether you own or rent the property)
- Your intended timeframe for having the work installed
- How you intend to fund the work (for example, paying in full or using a grant)
- Whether you receive any means-tested benefits — Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- The page (source URL) you were on when you started the request
Providing this information is required to obtain quotes. If you do not provide it, we and our partners cannot process your request or arrange for installers to contact you, and the service cannot be provided (UK GDPR Article 13(2)(e)).
Savings calculator data
If you use one of our savings calculators and ask us to email you the results, we store your email address and the figures you entered (your calculator results) so we can send you the report.
Newsletter subscriptions
Your email address when you sign up to our newsletter. We use a double opt-in process, so you confirm your subscription before we send you anything.
Usage and cookie data
Pages visited, time on site, referring URL, browser type and device information, collected via cookies and analytics after you consent. See the Cookies section below.
How We Use Your Data, and Our Lawful Basis
- Selling your quote request as a lead: when you submit the quote form, we sell your details as a lead, for a referral fee, to a lead partner who arranges for installers to contact you (see the Who We Share Your Data With section). Lawful basis: your consent.
- Sending your savings report: emailing you the results of a calculator you asked us to send. Lawful basis: performance of a contract (providing the report you requested), with your consent to the calculation.
- Sending our newsletter: if you have opted in. Lawful basis: your consent.
- Analytics and advertising measurement: understanding how the site is used and measuring advertising. Lawful basis: your consent (given through our cookie banner).
- Legal compliance: meeting our legal obligations. Lawful basis: compliance with a legal obligation.
Who We Share Your Data With
Selling your quote request
When you submit a quote request and give your consent, we sell your details, for a referral fee, to Leads Do Work Ltd (which operates leads.work and Local Quotes, part of the Quotatis lineage). This forwarding happens automatically as soon as you submit the form. Leads Do Work Ltd then passes your details to installers in their nationwide network, and those installers will contact you by phone, email or SMS about your quote. Leads Do Work Ltd is a recipient of your data and a data controller in its own right for what it does with your details; its own privacy terms will also apply. Service providers and other recipients
We use the following providers to run the site. Some act as processors on our behalf; others are recipients or controllers in their own right:
- Leads Do Work Ltd: our lead partner, as described above — a recipient and controller in its own right.
- Supabase: our database provider, used to store quote requests, calculator results and newsletter sign-ups. Data is held in the UK/EU per our provider configuration. See Supabase’s Privacy Policy.
- MailerLite: handles our newsletter and email marketing, including the double opt-in confirmation.
- Resend: sends our transactional emails, such as your savings-report email. Resend is US-based; the transfer is protected by the provider’s standard contractual protections (see International Transfers below).
- Google: Google Analytics 4 for consent-based, pseudonymous website analytics, and Google Ads conversion measurement (set only with your marketing consent). Google may transfer data to the US. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Awin and Amazon Associates: affiliate networks whose tracking cookies help us earn a commission when you buy a product through a link on our site. These cookies are set only with your marketing consent.
Cookies
We group cookies into three categories, matching the choices in our on-site cookie banner:
- Essential cookies: required for the website to function and to remember your cookie choices. These are always on and cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies: Google Analytics 4, which collects pseudonymous data about how visitors use the site. Set only after you consent.
- Marketing & affiliate cookies: Google Ads conversion cookies (
_gcl*), Microsoft Advertising (Bing Ads) conversion cookies (_uetsid / _uetvid), Awin affiliate cookies (_aw* / awin*) and Amazon Associates cookies. Set only after you consent.
All non-essential cookies (analytics, marketing and affiliate) are set only after you give consent through our cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time by reopening your choices via the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer.
International Transfers
Some of our providers are based outside the UK. In particular, Resend (transactional emails) and Google (analytics and ads measurement) may process data in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) with the relevant provider.
Data Retention
We keep your personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this policy:
- Quote request and calculator data: deleted or anonymised 24 months after it is collected, through an automated routine.
- Newsletter subscriptions: kept until you unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in each email.
- Analytics data: retained in line with Google Analytics 4 default retention settings.
Once you have submitted a quote request, Leads Do Work Ltd and the installers it works with keep and use your details under their own retention policies.
Your Rights
Under the UK GDPR, you have the following rights:
- Right of access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: request correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure: request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Right to restrict processing: request that we limit how we use your data.
- Right to data portability: request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to object: object to certain processing of your data.
- Right to withdraw consent: where our processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing us at privacy@ukenergyguide.co.uk. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdrew it — for example, once your quote request has already been sent to our lead partner, withdrawing consent will not recall it.
